Clay classes offer more than just fun – they play a valuable role in a child’s development. Working with clay encourages creativity, imagination, and self – expression, allowing children to bring their ideas to life in a three – dimensional form. The hands – on nature of sculpting and shaping clay strengthens fine motor skills, hand – eye coordination, and spatial awareness.
Clay also teaches patience and perseverance. Children learn to follow steps, problem-solve, and embrace the process of trial and error. The tactile experience of working with natural materials has a calming, therapeutic effect that helps improve focus and emotional well-being.
In a world where digital interaction is everywhere, clay provides a meaningful, unplugged way for kids to connect with their creativity and gain confidence in their abilities. Through clay classes, children not only make art – they grow as thinkers, makers, and individuals.

Pottery Studio
At Vivo Art Stdio pottery making is fun! Pottery art is enhances kids creativity, focus and fine-motor skills development. It allows children to explore and experience working with clay as a material. Most children enjoys squishing, squelching, pinching, rolling, poking and pounding the clay.
Pottery classes offer children a unique and meaningful way to grow creatively, emotionally, and developmentally. Working with clay allows kids to express themselves freely, turning their ideas into tangible, three-dimensional art. This process nurtures creativity, imagination, and self-confidence as they bring their visions to life.
Pottery also plays a key role in developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, as children learn to shape, mold, and refine their pieces with care and precision. The hands-on, sensory-rich experience of clay can be deeply calming, helping children focus, reduce stress, and build patience and perseverance.
Beyond artistic skills, pottery teaches problem-solving, planning, and resilience—important life lessons gained through experimentation and learning from mistakes. It encourages kids to slow down, engage with the process, and take pride in their work.
In an age dominated by screens and fast-paced routines, pottery offers a refreshing and grounding activity that connects children to the joy of creating with their hands. It’s not just about making art—it’s about learning, growing, and discovering the power of imagination.

Work on a Pottery Wheel
With pottery, your hands become your creative outlet and the stress relief. Believe it or not, it’s also a good physical workout as you use your arm muscles to “wedge” the clay (to get air bubbles out), and your core muscles to remain steady, especially when trying to center clay on the wheel.
At Vivo Art Studio, our pottery classes for children offer an exciting introduction to the world of clay, where creativity comes to life—right at their fingertips! One of the most magical parts of the experience is learning to work on an electrical pottery wheel. Children discover the joy of shaping clay into bowls, cups, and other forms as they explore the rhythm and motion of the wheel.
Alongside wheel work, students also practice hand-building techniques—such as coiling, pinching, and slab building—to create imaginative and functional pieces. They learn about clay in its different stages, from soft and moldable to firm and ready to paint, gaining a full understanding of the pottery process.
Our classes are designed for young artists ages 6 to 16, offering a supportive and creative space where they can develop skills, build confidence, and express themselves through clay. Whether they’re spinning the wheel or handcrafting a sculpture, children will love making art that is as unique as they are.
At Vivo Art Studio, we believe in learning through doing – and having fun along the way!

Pottery & Sculpture Tools
During our classes we use a combination of plastic and wooden clay tools. Our students will experience working with a manual pottery wheel only.
Parents: Please note that we use air dry clay. This particular clay doesn’t require a kiln and it dries in approximately 24 – 48 hours depending on the clay thickness.
We use acrylic paints to color our final art creations.

Messy Hands – Happy Hands!
Dear parents, please note that your child will not be bringing a finished art creation back home after every class. Pottery, clay and sculpture art requires a certain time, skill and process for completion. Children will be learning how to work with clay to sculpt different forms such as ornaments, plates, masks, etc.
We want your child to be creative and to experience different types of art media during our lessons. We include pencil sketching in our pottery, clay and sculpture classes.
We teach in English, Spanish and Russian

Pottery Painting
Pottery painting is fun! Once our pottery art is dried it’s time to paint it. Acrylic paint is perfect for an air-dry type of clay. We use different type of acrylic paint plus varnish and glitter materials to make our art colorful.
